Who is “Wild Like a Flower Gardening”?
Sara Lennert is my name and native plant gardening is my game!
How did I get started?
I have an educational background in Wildlife Habitat Management and Wildlife Conservation Biology. Through college, I knew I wanted to work for myself but at the time I didn’t know where my place in this field would be. I looked up to contractors creating and managing wildlife habitat all on their own. I wanted to be just like them, but living in an apartment didn’t entirely lend itself to owning a tractor. After working as a wildlife technician, naturalist, and even a college instructor, I began to feel this pull to work for myself. I was determined and began planning how I would best create wildlife habitat. At the time I was also a hobby native plant gardener. It clicked in 2021 that I would be creating pollinator gardens with native plants. At the time I was already offering garden care services so I started taking on small garden design projects. Fast forward to 2023 and I am very proud of how I have developed my skills and business. I feel as though I have found my place in this field and that I am making a positive impact on my community for both people and wildlife.
More about me
I enjoy creating educational content. I love creating infographics to teach people about native plants gardening and invasive species. I believe in making information free and accessible whenever possible. I got started with infographic design when I was Secretary for Ohio Wildlife Management Association.
Additionally I have worked and volunteered for organic farms since 2017. I am continously engaged in furthering my learning. Attending conferences like the Ohio Wildlife Diversity Conference and the Ohio Botanical Symposium. I pursue learning opportunities through zoom and in person. Most recently I attended a Project Wild certification training event in Columbus and loved it. ODNR is doing a great job with the program. I have my level 1 CSAW chainsaw certificate and I have trained under certified Ohio habitat contractors.
I have two dogs and one cat, together we make a band of goofy gals. I’ve got an old Jeep TJ that my pup Luna loves to ride in, when it wants to run… In my spare time I love hiking with my dogs, bird watching, and making various crafts with my cricut. From Spring to Fall you can catch me out in the evenings looking for bats with my mobile bat detector, and hoping to hear some owls and other nocturnal birds. I am an all around nature nerd in and outside of my business.
